Blue & Gold chevrons

Posted on Monday, February 25, 2013

Hello Lovelies!

Today's nails were just a quick change. I wanted to paint my nails, but I didn't really have a lot of time. I am and always will be obsessed with gold and black, so this time I added this bright blue by L.A. Colors on my accent nails. (Please ignore my messy cuticles.)

I really like the way freehand stripes look, but I might try a similar look using striping tape for more crisp lines at some point

Do you guys have any cool black and gold designs? I'd love to check them out!

P.S. - how are y'all liking my new watermark?

Creamy Metallics

Posted on Saturday, February 23, 2013

Today's post is inspired by Ivana Thinks Pink's Harlequin Hardware manicure. I saw this post quite some time ago and it really stuck with me. The idea of mixing a classic french with a simple gradient truly grabbed my attention. Though she used pink and gold to create her look, I opted to use more of my new Sinful Colors polishes to get a similar look. For the gradient I used Orange Cream and Easy Going, and the tips were done with Essie Penny Talk.

Does anyone else have issues applying Penny Talk? I find if very streaky and kind of hard to work with. I almost wish it came with one of those wide Sally Hansen brushes.

I just love how the pinkish orange hues of Penny Talk complement Orange Dream, while the cream color(Easy Going) gives it a soft accent.

I definitely think this is a unique take on the Funky French manicure and will most likely be trying different color and finish combinations in the future. Do any of you have any original French designs? I'd love to see them!

Nail wheel time!

Posted on Thursday, February 21, 2013

Today's post is quick! Instead of actually painting my nails I spent some time experimenting with designs that had been floating around in my head or that I have seen around the internet. Usually when I work on wheels I just grab a handful of colors and go to town. Well, thats precisely what I did today, but I paid no attention to the colors I grabbed, which is why it's such an odd combination.

Hope y'all like them!

Simple Stripes

Posted on Wednesday, February 20, 2013

I had an interview today so unfortunately my nails could not be covered in glitter, rainbows, or flowers. But I just couldn't leave them bare or just one solid color. I could not wait to use some of my new Sinful Colors polishes that I picked up the other day! I used Easy Going as a base and added some freehand stripes using Essie's Bobbing for Baubles. For some reason this navy comes on looking nearly black. I need to find a more navy navy...if that makes any sense haha.

I really like the way the v-shape of stripes looks.

Expect a lot more designs using Easy Going, I think it may be my new favorite color!

Sinful Colors Haul!!

Posted on Tuesday, February 19, 2013

If you didn't already notice, I use a Sinful Colors polish in almost all of my designs, so naturally when I saw the Sugar Rush collection was out at Walgreens I had to pick some up. Now I'm normally not the kind of person to just buy a whole collection at once, but this one was full of colors I didn't own and Walgreens had them on sale for $0.99 each!! I ended up getting 5 of the 8 colors as I already owned Unicorn, their pastel yellow. I also could not bring myself to buy the bright pink, Sugar n' Spice, considering I have so many already, and the purples were so alike (Though I might go back and get it anyway!)

Here is my mini haul, the first color is not part of the Sugar Rush Collection, but it was a must have!
Sugar trees
From left to right:
Easy Going - A creamy white with a slight hint of pink
Orange Cream - A pastel orange, almost coraly color, reminds me of a cream soda
Cotton Candy - This is what I call a perfect pink, a creamy medium hue, just the right pop of color
Sweet Tooth - Lovely cream pastel purple, with a little pink
Sugar Rush - Cream, pastel/baby blue. (Identical to Cinderella without the shimmer)
Sweet Nothing - A bold cream turquoise that reminds me of a blue raspberry Jolly Rancher

Here are some swatches of the colors below, they are all just one coat, with not top coat.

Sugar trees

I'm definitely happy with these colors and can't wait to use them!

My boyfriend likes trees

You know that moment just as the sun goes down the the sky is full of different colors and the sun is just out of sight? Now, in the Winter, that sight is even more captivating with with the leafless trees jutting through the gradient of blues, greys, and creams. Well, the bf seems to always catch it, look at me and say "You should put that on your nails!" I've been putting it off because I just wasn't quite sure how to capture the image. So I did a little search on the web and found this picture:

So what I did was painted a base of Private Viewing, then did a gradient using blue, grey, and white. Once that was a little dry I used my small nail art brush to draw the branches using mixes of black and brown to create a bark like effect. I wanted it to really look like i had little trees on my nails and not just wiggly lines all over them. I added a few birds on my ring finger to give the whole thing some life.

Sugar trees

And as usual, here are the colors I used:
Sugar trees
Orly blue Collar, Sinful Colors Nirvana, SC Snow Me White, Wet n' Wild Private Viewing, and Sally Hansen Black Out

A very past due post.

I don't know how all the time got away from me! I completely missed posting the rest my valentines day manicures, mostly because I had been helping my mom prepare for/host/clean up from her tea. Yes, my mom has teas, people look forward to them year round and come from across the country for them. Every year she has a Valentine's Day themed Tea that puts the Ritz to shame (I can say that right?). Here are a few pictures so you can see what middle aged black women are doing these days.

Here is one of the tables just before we put all the little foods out!

Stuff

And here are my babies! I spent approximately forever decorating these little teapot, teacup, and heart shaped cookies.

Stuff

Alright back to nails! My second V-day inspired mani was a cute little pink gradient with silver hearts.

Stuff

It seemed unfinished and kind of lackluster originally so I threw one some Spectraflair Top Coat (that fixes everything right?) Well, I still wasn't too happy with the outcome but the ladies at my mom's tea were in love! I haven't quite mastered the art of photographing this type of polish, so bear with me as I practice. Tips are highly welcome!

Stuff

Now, my final Valentines manicure was kind of wild. It pretty much looks like a girly glitter explosion, with hearts, and lips, and glitters, oh my! I'll just have to show you.

Stuff

I'm still working on getting in the groove of thise whole having a blog thing, so hopefully I'll posting again soon!

Love Birds for Valentine's Day!

Posted on Friday, February 8, 2013

Since I finally got my nail art brushes in I was able to do something a little more detailed than usual. These cute little love birds are perfect for V-day. I loved them so much I kept them on for a whole week. Surprisingly none of them chipped, just minimal tip wear.

I added hearts all over my other nails just to keep the party going!

I pretty much just took every pink I owned and made sure they made an apperance.
